Sidewalk development in North Jakarta has reached 45% completion

Sidewalk development has reached 45 percent completion, with an aim to finish the project in November, says the North Jakarta Bina Marga road agency.

The agency's head of road infrastructure and utility network (PJJU) section, Libertus Sagala, said Saturday that his agency had completed sidewalk construction in several spots.

"The development has reached 45 percent and we have finished the construction in several areas such as Jl. Enggano," Libertus said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

He added that each district in North Jakarta had been allocated Rp 6 billion (US$443,885) for the sidewalk construction project.

He said each sidewalk would be built with different widths. "It depends on the availability of space on each road. We aren't reducing the width of the roads," he said.

When construction was complete, he said his agency would install several facilities on the sidewalks such as posts to block traffic, benches and blind lanes.

Sidewalk construct has been carried out on Jl. Akses Rusun Marunda in Cilincing district, Jl. Plumpang Semper in Koja district and Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan in Kelapa Gading.

The road agency said earlier this year that it would build 80 kilometers of sidewalk in Jakarta this year. (rdi)
