Jakarta administration upbeat over vehicle tax target

The city administration booked Rp 5.9 trillion (US$442 million) in tax revenues from the vehicle ownership tax from January to August, an official said over the weekend.

The income was collected from taxes on 2,152,638 motorcycles and 1,175,184 cars, Jakarta Tax and Levy Board deputy head Wahyu Haryadi said.

"We still have four months to go and we are optimistic that our target of collecting Rp 7.9 trillion from vehicle ownership taxes can be achieved this year," he said as quoted by beritajakarta.id on Saturday.

"I urge people who have not paid their vehicle taxes to do so immediately because the money will be returned to the community in the form of various development projects," he said.

The board earlier waived arrears on vehicle owners behind on their taxes for six weeks ending on Aug. 31 in a bid to boost revenues. (dis)
