TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Special Capital Region(DKI) of Jakarta was appointed as the center of the world's sharia economic development when Jakarta Islamic Economic Community (MES) held regional discussion and meeting (Muswil dan Rakerwil) inJakarta on Saturday (30/9).
In the regional discussion and meeting, Reza Artha was unanimously chosen as the chairman of MES DKI Jakarta for the term 2017-2022. Jakarta deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno also attended the event as the head of MES DKI Jakarta Supervisory Council.
"Sandiaga Uno stated that MES should take a more active role in Jakarta development, especially in sharia economy. One of his propositions is making Jakarta as the center of world's sharia economic development," Reza said.
Considering that 220 million Muslims reside in Jakarta, this holds great potential for Jakarta to develop sharia economy, Reza continued.
Reza explained that MES DKI Jakarta has annual programs that are intended to promote halal lifestyle in international events. These programs include halal tourism, halal culinary, Muslim fashion, and halal creative industry or entertainment.
