Jakarta first grand mosque to get minor touch up

Jakarta's first city-owned grand mosque, the KH Hasyim Asy'ari in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, will have some of its facilities fixed in the near future, an official said on Friday.

Fatahillah, a public welfare assistant at the City Secretariat, said that the repairs would focus on the mosque's showers, sound system, parking area and park, among other things.

"We will work together with other official institutions to carry out the repair works," he said as quoted by beritajakarta.id.

He added that the city administration expected that all the work would be finished before the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan to provide a comfortable praying area for devotees.

Built on a 2.4-hectare plot of land near Pesakih low-cost apartments, the grand mosque, named after Hasyim Asy'ari the founder of the nation's biggest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, can accommodate 12,500 people.

The mosque is equipped with supporting facilities, such as office spaces for organizers of events held at the mosque, a function hall with a capacity for 1,000 people and a room for educational purposes. The mosque is also equipped with facilities for people with disabilities, such as ramps for wheelchairs. (idb)
