Good Pitch2 (Good Pitch Squared) Southeast Asia, the first installment of a regional program that draws together curated documentary filmmakers and change-makers, is slated to take place at GoetheHaus in Central Jakarta on May 4.
The one-day event will feature four social justice documentary films, namely Song for My Children by Shalahuddin Siregar from Indonesia, Intuition by Yong Shu Ling from Singapore, Sunday Beauty Queen by Baby Ruth Villarama from the Philippines, and Audio Perpetua by Universe Baldoza from the Philippines.
All the films tell stories about people from Southeast Asia. Sunday Beauty Queen, for instance, tells of the hidden lives and struggles of Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong. In the film, five of the workers give themselves a makeover for a day and gleefully reclaim their dignity.
Meanwhile, Intuition follows a young woman on a mission to transform learning in classrooms in Singapore.

The selected filmmakers received training in storytelling and how to create an impact strategy for their films in December last year. During the May event, they will collaborate with selected change-makers from different fields for their projects, such as Amnesty International, the ASEAN Foundation, the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) and the British Council Indonesia.
Organized by the non-profit organization In-Docs and Singapore-based youth projects organization Jia Foundation, Good Pitch was initiated by the non-profit film foundation BRITDOC and the Sundance Film Institute in 2009. Prior to Jakarta, the event was previously hosted in the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, Taiwan, Argentina, Kenya and Australia. (kes)
