TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hadar Nafis Gumay said there is no barrier for the Commission in the preparation of the simultaneous regional elections in 2017, including in the formulation of the election regulations.
"We still can work as usual," he said on Sunday (10/7).
Hadar added that KPU's jobs are not disputed following the passing of its chairman Husni Kamil Manik on Thursday.
"Our quorum in making decisions is five members," he added.
Hadar added that in formulating KPU regulations, the Commission is still awaiting for the approval from the House of Representaives (DPR), which is still on Eid recess.
For the record, under Article 9 of the Law on Regional Elections, it is stated that KPU is tasked to formulate and stipulate KPU regulations and technical guidance after consulting the DPR and the government.
The consultation is done in hearing sessions and the decisions made are binding.
Hadar further said that at least 10 points to be included in the regulations have been prepared and those encompass procedures of election, nomination of candidates and formulation of constituencies.
As previously reported, KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik died on Thursday (7/7). He suffered from diabetes and acute infections before his death. He was laid to rest in South Jakarta on Friday.
